This portrait was painted for Pintô International by Yasmin Sison and is part of the artist's ongoing "Blowing Bubbles" series, which is part of a longer series featuring her family, particularly her nieces and son. Yasmin has been painting Mika and Kiara along with their other cousins since they were little kids. This series shows them at that cusp between childhood and adulthood, blowing bubbles that will soon pop. During the time that the artist was thinking about the series, she also wanted to spark a conversation about misogyny in the Philippines, and chose to do so by showing portraits of her nieces, who are - in Yasmin's words - "strong, beautiful, complicated beings navigating a new field in their lives".
